Piano Ben had the pleasure of
visiting the new
Buchu Bar and Restaurant
in Pringle Bay, and shares his
experience with us.
“Late
last Sunday, my partner and I
happened to find ourselves in
the Pringle Bay area, and
dropped into the new Buchu Bar
and Restaurant. This
establishment was recently
bought by Graham and Sharon
Knight, who turned the old “Bar
Beyond” restaurant into this new
incarnation. They have clearly
lavished a lot of innovation,
design and investment into the
refurbishment, for the
restaurant exudes a
sophisticated and tranquil
ambience which offers an
excellent counterbalance for the
windy conditions which often
prevail in Pringle. This spot
would be an ideal venue for
Hermanus residents to take
visitors on those weekend drives
to “see the penguins” and
Hangklip.
The new owners are friendly and
unpretentious, and offer a small
but interesting menu catering
for all tastes. We decided to
dine informally, and had the
gourmet burger and vegetarian
burger. Both of these were
“hand-crafted”, made of
excellent ingredients, and
served to us by a dignified and
knowledgeable waitron with the
intriguing name of Shakespeare
Dhlamini. The generous beef
burger was of quality, low-fat
ground beef, and the vegetable
burger option was made from a
tasty base of chickpeas. They
were served with tasty onion
rings, a fresh garden garnish
and succulent potato chips. The
latter have already garnered a
local reputation for being “best
in town”. This rating was
obviously well deserved – the
chips were soft and buttery
inside, yet crispy and golden on
the outside.
Earlier, the friendly locals in
the bar had all recommended that
we have the house speciality,
the spare ribs, but as our
appetites were limited, we
decided to save those for our
next visit – and believe me,
that will be SOON!
Graham and Sharon are finalising
an annex to the Bar which will
host musical evenings in the
near future, and will be
publicising these events as they
occur. “
They can be
reached on 083 273 4202 for
bookings. More
