Margi’s Bears
I have been creating Teddy Bears
since 2001. At first they were
all made with acrylic fur and
had plastic ‘safety’ eyes
suitable for babies and small
children.
The creative bug bit hard in
April 2006 when I made my first
mohair bear.
These bears are made with
Schulte mohair imported from
Germany; they all have hand
blown, glass eyes and ultra
suede pads and paws. The
mohair comes in many different
colours, lengths and types –
curly, matted, and tipped with
contrasting shades giving
constant variety to the teddies.
All the bears are fully jointed
& some have “wobble” heads so
that they may be more easily
posed.
I make both traditional and
quirky bears. Sometimes I use
a mixture of fur types and
colours in a bear to make it
unique, such as Jeepers
Creepers.
The Dept. of Teddy affairs
opened recently in Onrus River
and all bears now have a
personalised ID document or
Birth Certificate E-mailed
within 24hours!
Together with Bernina at Gateway
Centre, I give classes in
creating your own Teddy Bear.
The bears, from 10cm – 45cm, are
adopted from my home as well as
at Craft Markets at Fernkloof in
Hermanus, Kirstenbosch in Cape
Town, and Somerset West.
A number of the bears have
travelled overseas to U.K., USA,
New Zealand, Australia, Shanghai
and Mauritius.
The main “Teddy Fair” in the
Cape is held at
Buitenverwachting, Constantia:
May 1st. each year
(Workers’ Day). Please contact
