BAMBOO BEACH

Located ten steps from the beach, over a sand dune and sheltering under a layer of milkwood trees, Bamboo Beach is the perfect place for passionate foodies.

This restaurant-cum-beach bar offers from a wondrous Chef Salad with blue cheese to a Chocolate Martini, while listening to the cool sounds of Afro Jazz. Bamboo Beach is a refreshing find.

The décor is as smooth and relaxing as the feeling you get upon arrival.

Bamboo Beach restaurant is a world of tastes of its own. The menu is balanced and the prices are affordable. It¹s an eclectic mix of African, Asian and European flavours combined. Try the Springbok Wrap or how about a gourmet Wood-Fired Pizza? Or Chicken Satay with two mouth-watering sauces. And for the more hungry - ever tasted fresh Cape Salmon cooked in the pizza oven with fresh garden herbs?

If your taste buds are looking for something light, but still with a kick, try a tender chicken breast marinated in balsamic vinegar and grilled to perfection. There has to be a secret ingredient in this recipe because, try as you might, it just won't taste as good as it does at Bamboo Beach. Maybe the secret ingredient is the ambience of the place; with Billy Holiday seductively crooning in the background while you're sipping on a chilled glass of local wine waiting for the sun to set, will make any meal delightful.
If you are in the mood for something more substantial, try the Fillet Madagascar or the lamb and Springbok shanks.
The shanks will tantalise your taste buds, as they are slow roasted in fresh rosemary and other herbs from their herb garden located behind the restaurant.
Their fresh herbs are used in almost every meal. With subtle tastes of cumin, coriander and more, bringing a zest to the food. The menu is a relaxed selection of tasteful foods that don't intimidate you with their pronunciation. And the menu always has innovative specials to keep your taste buds alive with wonder.

When reading the selection and listening to the description of the desserts, you'll be forgiven if you start acting like a child. From the decadent Choc Pots to the silky Panna Cottas made with yoghurt - it's deliciously sinful.

If the place hasn't yet put you in a holiday mood, then this ‘island style¹ bar will definitely do the trick. Sun bleached shale covers the ground enhancing the beach bum feeling one eventually gets on a seaside holiday.

If you don't feel for the beach bar, you could always hang out in the lounge area. Get swallowed by the comfy couch while browsing through a magazine or sip on your cocktail, make sure you don't doze off though; the lazy summer mood is quite contagious.

The ambience at Bamboo Beach is easy and effective with a sidewalk café heartbeat where you'll see a few unhurried locals walking their dogs pass by, or the local surfer with friend in tow.

If you're interested in experiencing all of this and more drive down towards Hermanus and you¹ll see the sign for Sandbaai about five minutes before you enter Hermanus. Refer to their map for quick and easy directions.
